NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) in New York reported that the summer of 2023 was the hottest on record for Earth since global temperature records began in 1880. The combined months of June, July, and August were 0.41 degrees Fahrenheit (0.23 degrees Celsius) warmer than any previous summer, with August alone being 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.2 degrees Celsius) warmer than the average summer from 1951 to 1980.
